This event is in the past. Please refer to the Vegetarians of Washington Newsflash for the next scheduled Hiking Trip. Cougar Mountain, Issaquah, Sunday May 16th 2004, 9:30am Cougar Mountain Park covers more than 3,000 acres and is the largest park in the 20,000-acre King County Park System. Located in the "Issaquah Alps," Cougar Mountain Park is famous for its many trails - more than 36 miles of trails for hiking, and over 12 miles for equestrians. Equally impressive as the total trail mileage is the scenery along the way and the interesting destinations that the trails lead to. Among the trail destinations are:
Red Town Trailhead is the site of a former mining town. In 1883, the town had 750 residents and produced coal for steamships, railroads and the city of San Francisco. Prospectors and coal miners worked Cougar Mountain for nearly 100 years, digging coal, waste rock and clay. We’ll meet at the Red Town Trailhead parking lot (rain or shine) on Sunday May 16th at 9:30am, and bring your own water, snacks and a picnic lunch if you like. We will choose the route(s) based on the preferences of the group, so let us know how far you’d like to walk. Printed trail maps are available at the information kiosk. So we can get an idea of how many people would like to join us, please either submit the form at the bottom of this page, send an e-mail to reservation, or call (206) 706-2635.
